Mumbai: A city-based social worker, Muhammad Jameel Merchant, has lodged a complaint against a United States citizen for allegedly tearing and disrespecting India's national flag.
Complaint Filed with US Police
In a letter addressed to the Police Records, Frisco Police Department in Texas, USA, Merchant stated that he viewed a verified video clip featuring a man identified as US citizen Clayton Walker tearing the tricolour. Merchant alleged that Walker is a habitual offender who exhibits proactive behaviour, using abusive slang, hate speech, and acts capable of inciting hostility.
Nationalist Sentiment Hurt
Merchant expressed that as a proud and nationalist Indian, he was deeply hurt to witness India's national flag being torn and publicly desecrated. He urged authorities to take appropriate action against Walker.
The complaint highlights the emotional impact such acts have on citizens and calls for legal measures to prevent future incidents.
