The Khan family and Bollywood fraternity are grieving the loss of Zarine Khan, who passed away on Friday at the age of 81. The wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan suffered a cardiac arrest at her Mumbai residence, marking the end of an era for the prominent film family.
Emotional Final Farewell in Mumbai
The last rites of Zarine Khan were conducted at Juhu Crematorium in Mumbai, where family members and close friends gathered to pay their final respects. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as her children performed the traditional ceremonies.
Zayed Khan, her son, was visibly devastated during the funeral proceedings. In a viral video from the ceremony, he could be seen fighting back tears while performing his mother's last rites, his grief palpable to everyone present.
Her daughter, Sussanne Khan, arrived with her son and other family members to carry Zarine Khan's mortal remains. A grief-stricken Sussanne remained focused on her mother throughout the ceremony, unable to look away from the final moments.
Bollywood Stars Extend Support
The funeral saw an outpouring of support from the film industry. Sanjay Khan, overwhelmed with sorrow, folded his hands in gratitude to the paparazzi while arriving at the crematorium.
Notable among the attendees was Hrithik Roshan, who came to support his ex-wife Sussanne Khan during this difficult time. His girlfriend, Saba Azad, also joined him at the crematorium, showing solidarity with the grieving family.
The celebrity presence extended beyond the immediate family, with Jackie Shroff, Bobby Deol, Zoya Akhtar, Rani Mukerji, Gauri Khan, Seema Sajdeh, Sweta Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Neelam Kothari, Jasmine Bhasin, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jackky Bhagnani all visiting Sanjay Khan's residence to offer condolences.
Remembering Zarine Khan's Legacy
Zarine Khan, who had been facing age-related health issues for some time, breathed her last on Friday morning at her Mumbai home. She is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan and their four children: Zayed Khan, Sussanne Khan, Farah Ali Khan, and Simone Arora.
The late Zarine Khan was known for her roles in classic Bollywood films, including 'Tere Ghar Ke Saamne' (1963) and 'Ek Phool Do Mali' (1969). Her love story with Sanjay Khan began unusually - they first met at a bus stop and eventually married in 1966, beginning a partnership that lasted decades.
Earlier this year, in July, Zarine Khan celebrated her 81st birthday. On that occasion, Sussanne Khan had shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, calling her mother "gorgeous" and "beautiful" while expressing gratitude for the values instilled in her.
The family has announced that a prayer meet will be held on Monday at JW Marriott, Mumbai, providing another opportunity for friends and well-wishers to pay their respects to the departed soul.
