Jadavpur University Placement Probe Finds Data Inconsistencies
JU Placement Probe Finds Data Inconsistencies

Kolkata: The enquiry committee investigating allegations and issues related to the placement and training office at Jadavpur University has submitted its interim report to the Vice-Chancellor. The report urges authorities to take steps to preserve the glory and sanctity of the university's placement process.

Findings of the Committee

A source revealed that after collecting data and documents in various formats, the committee found that placement data, including job offers submitted by the placement officer, were inconsistent and exaggerated. The figures could not be supported by necessary documents. Similarly, a mismatch was found between the number of companies cited by the officer as having visited for placement and the actual number that visited.

Revoked Job Offers

Recently, a multinational company revoked offers made to a few students because they did not meet the required criteria during interviews. The company had informed the placement officer that students were allowed to participate in the selection process without fulfilling criteria. A similar incident occurred last year, but no corrective measures were taken. A teacher stated, "These incidents harm the university's image in front of corporate companies."

Other Discrepancies

Other findings by the committee include attendance discrepancies, such as signing in on holidays, and excessive expenditure on cars and food packets.

Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee commented, "The service she has provided cannot be ignored, but there are issues with some actions. I will read the report and then take a call." Placement officer Samita Bhattacharya said, "I am medically unfit and on leave. Hence, I do not have any idea about this matter, so I will refrain from commenting."
