From Corporate Stress to Soulful Music: The Backstage Siblings Story
In a remarkable career shift, siblings Raghav and Prachi have become India's pioneering "bhajan jammers," trading high-pressure finance jobs for a path of musical spirituality. Branded as Backstage Siblings, their unconventional journey mirrors their music—beginning quietly but resonating deeply across generations.
Roots in Kolkata's Spiritual Atmosphere
Growing up in Kolkata, music wasn't a career consideration for the siblings—it was simply part of their environment. "We would attend 'satsang' with our father and sit beside him, barely understanding the words or even knowing how to sing. But the energy, the vibrations—they felt magical," recalls Raghav. That childhood experience planted a seed that would blossom years later.
More than a year ago, without formal training or a detailed roadmap, they followed their intuition. "It all started over a year ago when both of us followed a feeling. With no big plan, just heart, we held our very first session of around 50-70 people. We aren't professionally trained musicians, just two siblings who sing from the heart. Whatever we've learned has come from listening, feeling, and growing up with our dad's music," Raghav explains.
Leaving the Corporate World Behind
Their previous lives couldn't have been more different. Raghav worked as an investment banker while Prachi was a fixed income trader. "We chose to step away from that world to pursue Backstage Siblings full-time because it holds a very special place in our hearts and the joy it brings us is truly unmatched," says Prachi.
The Backstage Siblings Philosophy
"Backstage Siblings is a place where we make people sing. We try to create a warm, open space with no barriers, where the intention is simply to sing, feel, and experience music together. Moving through Bollywood songs, 'bhajans', poetry, and familiar tunes, our sessions invite everyone to participate with ease," Prachi describes.
They intentionally avoid fixed playlists, believing the audience should shape the musical experience organically. "That is why we call ourselves Backstage Siblings—the spotlight is never on us, it belongs to the people," emphasizes Raghav.
Creating an Alternative Escape
Their intimate jam sessions, or "baithaks," are designed as barrier-free spaces where people can authentically express emotions. "Today, everyone is searching for some escape. We wanted to offer a different kind of high, one without alcohol, a high that comes from music, from 'bhajans', from sitting together and feeling those vibrations move through the body," Raghav explains.
The appeal spans generations remarkably. "Around 80% of people who come to our sessions are Gen Z, and the average age ranges from 18 to 35. That said, there's no age restriction at all. We see people coming in with their grandparents, their parents, their partners, their friends," notes Prachi.
"This is something we truly love—this kind of music and this experience seem to resonate across generations. That's been our belief since the very first session, and it hasn't changed. Even going forward, the essence remains the same," she adds.
Powerful Moments and Global Reach
The emotional impact of their sessions is profound. "We see people of all ages coming together, and what's beautiful is that most of them choose to sit on the floor, regardless of age, just fully present. We have seen people cry, laugh, and enjoy with their entire heart in our jamming sessions," Prachi observes.
Raghav shares a particularly touching memory: "A 70-year-old woman came for our show and, despite having difficulty sitting since all our sessions are floor-seated, chose to sit on the floor for the entire jam. After the show, she came up to us, gave us the most wholesome hug, and simply said 'thank you'."
Their journey has taken them far beyond their Kolkata roots. "We have performed across the globe. We started with our India tour in July-August, covering six cities—Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. We have also performed internationally in Singapore and Dubai, and we have now announced our US tour scheduled for April-May," Raghav reveals.
A Movement Beyond Music
The Backstage Siblings phenomenon represents more than just musical entertainment—it's creating community through shared spiritual experience. By blending traditional bhajans with contemporary elements and maintaining complete accessibility, they've tapped into a universal longing for authentic connection.
Their success demonstrates that sometimes the most powerful career paths emerge not from careful planning but from following one's heart and childhood memories. As they prepare for their upcoming US tour, Raghav and Prachi continue proving that corporate success can be redefined through passion, purpose, and the simple power of people singing together.
