Adolescence Season 2 Gets a Hint from Golden Globe Winner Stephen Graham
Fans of the hit Netflix series Adolescence might have more to look forward to. The show, originally planned as a limited series, could potentially return for a second season. This exciting possibility emerged after actor and co-creator Stephen Graham's recent Golden Globe win.
Golden Globe Success Sparks Renewal Speculation
Stephen Graham won the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology, or TV Movie on Sunday night. He plays father Eddie Miller in Adolescence. Backstage after his victory, reporters asked Graham about the show's future. He hinted that a second season might not be completely off the table.
According to Deadline, Graham said the idea for more Adolescence rests in his mind and co-creator Jack Thorne's mind. He described the thought as being kept in the deep recesses of their thinking. Graham told the press he could not give a definite answer right now. He suggested people should stay tuned for potential developments in three or four years.
Early Discussions About the Show's Future
Talks about continuing Adolescence actually began earlier. In April last year, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner spoke with Deadline. They revealed discussions with director Philip Barantini about what could come next for the series.
Gardner explained their careful approach to any potential new version. She said they wanted to keep the show's DNA intact while moving forward. The team is considering how to continue without simply repeating the same story that made the first season so successful.
Adolescence: A Critical and Commercial Success
The series tells the powerful story of Eddie Miller. His life turns completely upside down after his thirteen-year-old son Jamie commits a serious crime. Owen Cooper plays Jamie and won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Erin Doherty also won in the supporting actress category for her role as therapist Briony Ariston.
Adolescence earned five Golden Globe nominations total, including Best Limited Series. The show has performed exceptionally well throughout awards season. Since debuting before the 2025 Emmy Awards, it received thirteen Emmy nominations and won eight awards.
Audiences have embraced the series too. Adolescence became Netflix's second most-watched English-language series of all time. It achieved more than 146 million views in its first ninety-one days on the platform.
The combination of critical acclaim and massive viewer numbers makes the possibility of a second season particularly intriguing. While nothing is confirmed yet, Stephen Graham's comments suggest the creative team hasn't closed the door on Eddie Miller's world completely.
