Prime Video Cancels YA Series 'The Runarounds' After One Season
In a quiet move that has only recently come to light, Prime Video has decided not to renew the YA series The Runarounds for a second season. According to a report from Deadline, the streaming platform opted to cancel the show several months ago, ending its run after just one installment.
Lead Actress Lilah Pate Moves to New Project
Despite the cancellation, the series' female lead, Lilah Pate, has already secured a new role. She has landed a series regular position in Frisco King, a spinoff of the popular series Tulsa King. This new project is created by Taylor Sheridan for Paramount+, marking a significant career move for the actress following the end of The Runarounds.
Real-Life Band Continues to Thrive and Tour
While the TV series may be over, the eponymous rock band at the heart of the show is far from finished. The band, which is composed of show stars and real-life musicians William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zende Murdock, and Jesse Golliher, is currently on tour and will continue performing through the end of June.
In a heartfelt message on their Instagram account, the quintet expressed their gratitude and optimism for the future. "While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we're here to stay," they wrote. They extended thanks to the cast, crew, and supporters who helped bring the first season to life, emphasizing that this marks "the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one."
Creative Origins and Inspiration
The Runarounds was created by Jonas Pate, who is also known as a co-creator of the hit series Outer Banks. The show was executive produced by all three Outer Banks co-creators: Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke. Interestingly, the series was inspired by a real band of the same name, which was formed in 2021 specifically to appear on the Netflix action-adventure YA series that served as its foundation.
This unique blend of fiction and reality allowed the show to feature authentic musical performances, but ultimately, it was not enough to secure a renewal from Prime Video. The cancellation highlights the competitive nature of the streaming landscape, where even shows with creative pedigrees and real-world ties can struggle to find a lasting audience.
As the band continues to connect with fans through their music and live performances, the legacy of The Runarounds lives on beyond the small screen, demonstrating how art can evolve and persist in new forms even after its original platform has moved on.
