Exploring the Storyline and Central Characters
The film delves into complex emotional territories, exploring themes of ego, manipulation, and deep-seated dependency. The narrative follows Shankar and Mukti, who first cross paths during their college years. Mukti, who is conducting PhD research on Shankar, eventually breaks off their relationship.
Their lives take separate turns. Mukti moves on with someone else, while Shankar pursues a career as a flight lieutenant in the Indian Air Force. Fate, however, has other plans. A chance encounter years later forces them to confront the unresolved issues of their shared past.
Dhanush embodies the role of Flight Lieutenant Shankar Gurukka with intensity. Kriti Sanon portrays the multifaceted character of Mukti Beniwal, a role that initially gave the actress pause.
Kriti Sanon's Candid Thoughts on Her Character
In a revealing interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kriti Sanon shared her initial, unsettled reaction to the script. She admitted the character of Mukti left her feeling uneasy.
"When I read the script, and the way she was written, I was feeling completely negative," Kriti confessed. "We were scheduled to shoot in February. In January, I read the entire script and immediately called Aanand sir. I told him, 'I don't like her. I'm not liking her.' It was giving me anxiety. I was not liking this girl. There's something very selfish about her."
However, Kriti explained that director Aanand L. Rai had a different, more nuanced vision for Mukti than what appeared on the page. His guidance helped shape her final, compelling performance.
