The legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday, left an indelible mark not only on Hindi cinema but also on Gujarati films. Her contributions to the regional film industry include two particularly unforgettable songs that continue to resonate with audiences decades after their release.

Among her most cherished Gujarati film songs are "Garaj Garaj Varso" from the 1975 movie Tanariri, where she collaborated with co-singer Usha Mangeshkar, and "Kyan Rami Aavya Raas" from the 1980 film Jog Sanjog, featuring Naresh Kanodia as the co-singer. Both of these musical masterpieces share a common creative force: they were composed by the dynamic duo known as Mahesh-Naresh, comprising brothers Mahesh Kanodia and Naresh Kanodia.
Hitu Kanodia Reflects on a Musical Bond
In an exclusive conversation, D-Town superstar Hitu Kanodia, son of Naresh Kanodia, shared heartfelt insights into Asha Bhosle's relationship with his family. "Asha ji loved working with my father (Naresh Kanodia) and uncle (Mahesh Kanodia)," Hitu revealed. "Her Gujarati film songs will remain immortal, just like her. In Tanariri, all the songs were based on ragas. Garaj Garaj Varso was based on the Megh Malhar raga, and it remains a magical composition."
Hitu, who was just a toddler during the peak of their collaborations, expressed gratitude for later opportunities to meet the iconic singer. "She was always very loving, extremely down to earth, and very fond of my brother (Sooraj), who was an excellent musician," he recalled. "Her demise is a huge loss for our country, but she will live on through her songs."
A Spirit of Collaboration and Fun
Hitu further illuminated the joyful atmosphere that characterized Asha Bhosle's work with the Kanodia brothers. According to stories passed down by his father, "working with Asha ji was great fun." He elaborated, "They would do a lot of masti while working together, dhamaal karte thay woh log. She had no ego and genuinely appreciated talented people."
The Kanodia brothers were pioneers in organizing live shows for film music, revolutionizing the industry with their orchestra parties. Their expertise was so respected that when Asha Bhosle planned to embark on live performances with other legendary singers, she sought their guidance. "Kalyanji-Anandji ke saath Asha ji pappa aur uncle ke shows dekhne aayi thi. She had great respect for their work," Hitu noted, highlighting the mutual admiration and professional respect that defined their relationship.
