Chhattisgarh Launches Major Film and Cultural Infrastructure Project in Naya Raipur
The foundation stone for the ambitious Chitrotpala International Film City and Tribal & Cultural Convention Centre was ceremoniously laid last week in Naya Raipur, marking a significant milestone in Chhattisgarh's efforts to enhance its film and convention infrastructure. This development signals the beginning of a transformative project designed to position the state as a hub for cinematic production and cultural exchange.

The event witnessed the presence of a distinguished gathering, including state ministers, legislators, and senior government officials, alongside key industry representatives. Notably, acclaimed filmmaker Anil Sharma attended, underscoring the project's relevance to the film fraternity. The ceremony highlighted the collaborative spirit between government bodies and private stakeholders in driving this initiative forward.
Project Scope and Development Phases
The first phase of the project will encompass approximately 95 acres, with subsequent phases planned to expand its footprint. It is being developed under the Special Assistance Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, emphasizing its strategic importance in boosting tourism and economic growth. Officials have outlined that the project aims to seamlessly integrate film production facilities with exhibition, convention, and hospitality infrastructure, creating a multifaceted destination.
Government Support and Financial Commitment
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai announced substantial financial backing from the state government. He confirmed that Rs 150 crore will be allocated for the first phase, with an additional Rs 250–300 crore earmarked for later phases. The Chief Minister projected that phase one is expected to be completed within about two years, reflecting the government's commitment to timely execution and support for the project's success.
Comprehensive Facilities and Stakeholder Involvement
According to the developers, the project is envisioned as a fully equipped film city and cultural convention centre, designed to support a wide range of activities, including film production, exhibitions, and cultural events. Key stakeholders involved include representatives from India Exposition Mart Limited (IEML) and the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH). Rakesh Kumar, Chairman of IEML, and Neeraj Khanna, Chairman of EPCH, are set to contribute to the development of essential facilities such as:

- Mart-cum-business showrooms
- A helipad
- Related support infrastructure
The project documentation emphasizes that these facilities are intended to benefit artisans, tribal communities, MSMEs, and skilled workers, fostering economic empowerment and cultural preservation.

Tarun Rathi highlighted that the project aims to provide state-of-the-art production infrastructure and equipment for filmmakers. A key goal is to attract film crews from outside Chhattisgarh to shoot in Raipur, thereby stimulating local tourism and creating job opportunities.
