The team behind director Mohan G's much-anticipated Tamil-Telugu historical film Draupathi 2 has finally revealed the first look. They released a poster on Tuesday featuring actor Dinesh Lamba in the role of Ghiyasuddin Thamkani. This move has excited fans who have been eagerly waiting for updates about the project.
Release Date and Director's Announcement
Director Mohan G Kshatriyan shared the poster on his social media timeline. He posted the image with a caption that read, "In just three more days, #Draupathi 2 will be in your favorite theaters. Starting January 23." This confirms the film's release date as January 23 of this year. The announcement has generated significant buzz among cinema enthusiasts.
Historical Setting and Plot Details
Draupathi 2 is set in the 14th century. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III's rule. It also explores the bravery and resistance of the Kadavarayas from Sendhamangalam. The narrative delves into the turbulent changes caused by the Mughal invasion of Tamil Nadu.
In a previous interview with IANS, director Mohan G explained the film's structure. He said that Draupathi 2 continues directly from the first part of the franchise. The total runtime of the movie is 2 hours and 39 minutes. Only about eight to nine minutes of the story take place in the year 2025. The remaining portion is entirely set in the 14th century.
Inspiration and Historical Accuracy
Mohan G revealed the inspiration for the screenplay came from a small book titled Moondram Vallalla Maharaja. Historian Annal Kandar authored this book. The director emphasized that the major historical events depicted in the film are based on factual records. However, the team took cinematic liberties while developing the characters to enhance the drama.
"It took me almost a year to complete the script," Mohan G stated. He mentioned meeting numerous people to research the subject thoroughly. He also noted that the third Veera Vallalalar ruled with Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu as his capital.
Star-Studded Cast and Technical Team
The film features a large ensemble cast. Apart from Dinesh Lamba, actors like Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan play significant roles. Actor and cinematographer Natti Natraj will also essay a key part in the movie.
Other notable cast members include Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan. This extensive cast adds to the film's historical scale and dramatic presence.

Draupathi 2 boasts a strong technical team as well. Samrat has penned the Telugu dialogues for the film. Ghibran Vaibodha has composed the music score. Philip R. Sundar handles the cinematography, while Thanika Tony is in charge of choreography.
Action sequences have been choreographed by Action Santosh. Devaraj serves as the editor for the project. Art direction is managed by Kamalnathan, ensuring a visually authentic historical setting.
