Gujarati Film 'Laalo' Becomes Surprise Hit, Now Released in Hindi
The Gujarati film 'Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate' surprised everyone when it hit theatres during Diwali last year. It started with a slow opening but quickly gained momentum through strong word of mouth. Families flocked to cinemas in large numbers to watch this devotional story. The film eventually earned an impressive Rs 100 crores at the box office.
Shruhad Goswami played the crucial role of Lord Krishna in the movie. Following its massive success in Gujarati, the makers decided to release a Hindi version on January 9. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shruhad opened up about his experience portraying the divine character.
Playing God Comes With Great Responsibility
Shruhad Goswami admitted that playing Lord Krishna in India presents unique challenges. He emphasized the significant responsibility involved in portraying a deity. The actor worked carefully to avoid hurting anyone's religious sentiments during his performance.
"It is a very big responsibility to play the character of God," Shruhad explained. "I had to ensure that I don't do anything that can hurt people's sentiments."
He confessed to feeling some initial fear about taking on such an important role. However, that anxiety gradually faded as the team continued working on the project. "There was a little bit of fear as well. But as we kept working on it, it kept becoming simple," he added.
Once the team fully understood the emotional core of the character, everything began falling into place naturally.
Actor Credits Divine Power for His Performance
Shruhad Goswami refuses to take personal credit for his portrayal of Lord Krishna. When he first watched the completed film, he found himself wondering how he managed to deliver such a performance.
"When I saw the film for the first time, I wondered how I did this," the actor revealed. "I am unable to believe that this was done by me."
He believes some higher power worked through him during the filming process. "I feel there was some divine power through which I was able to do this. Else, how can a human being play God?" Shruhad questioned. "So, I don't want to take any credit for this. It happened with God's grace."
A Different Interpretation of Krishna Strengthens Faith
When asked about comparisons with Nitish Bharadwaj's famous portrayal of Krishna, Shruhad emphasized that every actor brings something unique to such roles.
"Nitish Bharadwaj is a different person; Shruhad is a different person," he stated simply.
Director Ankit Sakhiya wanted a version of Krishna that felt accessible and relatable to ordinary people. "Ankit had told me that we needed to show God in a particular way, who even has tears, speaks to us, admonishes us," Shruhad shared.
The experience of making the film strengthened Shruhad's personal faith. "We hadn't even asked for anything. He still gave us so much," he reflected about the divine blessings he felt during production.
New acting offers have started coming in following the film's success. However, Shruhad plans to consider them carefully. He intends to make his next career decisions thoughtfully and without rushing.
