Jewar International Film City Prepares for Historic First Shoot with Mom-2
Uttar Pradesh's ambitious international film city project in Jewar is poised to mark a significant milestone as it gears up to host its first major film production. According to an official spokesperson, the sequel to the 2017 film Mom, tentatively titled Mom-2, will be shot at the site, signaling a major boost for the state's entertainment infrastructure.
Preparations Underway for Early Filming
Officials associated with the project confirmed that preliminary preparations have commenced at the Jewar site. Land mapping is currently in progress, a crucial step that will pave the way for the construction of shooting sets. Once the mapping exercise is completed, the set is expected to be ready within approximately 20 days.
Filming for Mom-2 is likely to begin by the end of February or in early March, according to project insiders. This timeline indicates a swift transition from planning to active production, highlighting the project's momentum.
Project Details and Development Timeline
The international film city is being developed in Sector-21 along the Yamuna Expressway by Bayview Bhutani Film City Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between renowned filmmaker Boney Kapoor and the Bhutani Group. The developer has already signed a formal agreement with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), and work has accelerated following the approval of the layout plan.
Rajeev Arora, General Manager of the Bayview Bhutani Film City project, provided insights into the dual-track approach. "While preparations for the film shoot are underway, the construction process of the film city will also begin simultaneously," he stated. Arora added that once mapping is complete, the set will be developed in about 20 days, enabling film-related activities to commence promptly.
Strategic Significance and Endorsement
The choice of Uttar Pradesh for shooting Mom-2 is being viewed as a strong endorsement of the state's film policy and its push to develop world-class infrastructure. Boney Kapoor's production house, which produced the original Mom, selecting this location underscores growing confidence in the region's potential.
Arora also mentioned that a formal foundation-laying ceremony for the film city is likely to be held soon, potentially attended by the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister, further emphasizing the project's high-profile nature.
Vision and Future Prospects
Strategically located near the upcoming Jewar International Airport, the film city is envisioned as a world-class facility equipped with modern infrastructure and seamless connectivity. The Uttar Pradesh government aims to attract not only films but also OTT platforms and web series, positioning the state as a hub for entertainment production.
Industry experts believe that initiating film shoots even before the project's formal launch reflects the film industry's growing confidence in Uttar Pradesh's evolving entertainment ecosystem. This early activity could set a precedent for future productions and bolster the state's reputation as a destination for filmmakers.
The development of the Jewar film city represents a significant step in Uttar Pradesh's efforts to enhance its cultural and economic landscape through the entertainment sector.
