S Janaki's caretaker Pavan revealed that the legendary singer wanted to live in Mysuru and had wished to host a memorial event for her son in December this year. The revelation comes days after the 86-year-old singer passed away.
Caretaker Shares Final Wishes
Pavan, who had been taking care of Janaki for several years, said the singer had expressed a strong desire to settle in Mysuru permanently. 'She loved the city and its culture. She often spoke about moving to Mysuru and spending her remaining days there,' Pavan said.
He added that Janaki had planned to host a memorial event for her son, who died in 2017, in December 2026. 'She wanted to organize a small gathering to remember her son. She had already started discussing the arrangements with me,' Pavan stated.
Her Final Years
According to Pavan, Janaki had stopped singing in public but continued to sing at home. 'She sang endlessly at home. She sang Meera bhajans, Kannada, Malayalam and other songs regularly at home,' he said. She also recorded a few songs for movies she had promised to sing a decade ago.
Janaki, known for her versatile voice in multiple Indian languages, had been living a reclusive life in recent years. She passed away on July 12, 2026, at her residence in Chennai.
Legacy
Fans and colleagues have been paying tributes to the singer, who recorded over 25,000 songs in her career spanning more than five decades. Her contributions to Indian cinema, especially in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi films, remain unmatched.
