The Mumbai police arrested television actor Rohit Chandel on Friday over allegations that he stalked, harassed, and assaulted a 16-year-old girl in an eastern suburb of the city. Chandel, 29, known for his roles in 'Kashibai Bajirao Ballal' and 'Pandya Store', and currently appearing in 'Sairaab', was produced before a special court on Friday and remanded to police custody.
Details of the Allegations
According to the girl's complaint, she and Chandel knew each other before the alleged harassment began. He is accused of calling her repeatedly. When she stopped answering, he allegedly used different numbers to continue contacting her. The complaint states that the matter escalated on July 5, when Chandel allegedly confronted the teenager near her residential building, chased her, argued with her, hurled abuses, and assaulted her.
Legal Action and Investigation
The girl reported the incident at her local police station, following which an FIR was registered against Chandel. A case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with charges related to stalking and assault. A police official said the case was registered on the basis of her complaint and that the investigation is ongoing. Officers plan to procure CCTV footage from the area and record a detailed statement from the girl.

Chandel, a resident of Dahisar, has not issued any public response to the allegations. The police investigation continues as they gather evidence and witness statements.
