Bridgerton Star Yerin Ha Reveals Medical Emergency After Filming Bathtub Scene
As Bridgerton Season 4 continues to dominate global streaming charts in early 2026, fans are eagerly consuming behind-the-scenes details about the production. However, for actress Yerin Ha, who portrays Sophie Baek, the filming of one particularly talked-about romantic moment resulted in a serious medical issue rather than just on-screen chemistry.
The Bathtub Scene That Led to a Health Crisis
During a recent appearance on Capital Breakfast on February 25, 2026, Ha disclosed that she developed a severe case of folliculitis after spending nearly seven hours submerged in water with co-star Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton. The scene, which has been widely praised by critics for its "female gaze" and poetic storytelling, required an entire production day to capture perfectly.
"The next day after the bathtub, I got hives all over my body and got folliculitis and needed steroid cream! I blame myself... it was a combination of baby powder and the bath water," Ha admitted candidly. The irritation was caused by a DIY hack that went terribly wrong. In an effort to make intimacy tape and modesty garments adhere more effectively to her skin, Ha applied a significant amount of baby powder before entering the water.
Physical Toll and Professional Perspective
This was not the only health challenge Ha faced during production. In a separate instance, a staircase scene had to be rescheduled because she caught the flu, further highlighting the physical demands of filming such an intense season. Despite these hardships, Ha strongly defended the show's intimate direction and the purpose behind such scenes.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Ha explained that the intimate moments in Season 4 feel like an "extension of the storytelling" rather than being included "just for the sake of it." For Ha, it is the vulnerability and depth of Sophie and Benedict's relationship that makes their physical connections meaningful and narratively essential.
Bridgerton Season 4 Focus and Character Introductions
This season shifts the spotlight onto the second-eldest Bridgerton brother, Benedict, portrayed by Luke Thompson. Previously resistant to settling down, Benedict finds himself utterly captivated by a mysterious woman at his mother's masquerade ball. The season introduces Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha, a resourceful and spirited young woman forced into domestic servitude under a demanding stepmother.
The production challenges, including Ha's medical emergency, underscore the often-unseen physical sacrifices actors make to bring beloved stories to life. As Bridgerton continues to enchant audiences worldwide, these behind-the-scenes revelations add a layer of real-world drama to the fictional romance that has captured global attention.
