Kolkata is set for a vibrant day, seamlessly blending the worlds of cinema, sports, and civic duty this Saturday. The city will host a major cinematic celebration at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) while simultaneously honouring a rising star in cricket. Alongside these events, the Election Commission is conducting a crucial review of the electoral roll revision process across West Bengal.
A Cinematic Gem Restored
The 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), which carries the powerful tagline 'Cinema Connects The World', is set for a special highlight today. Cinephiles are in for a treat as Satyajit Ray's acclaimed classic, 'Aranyer Din Ratri' (Days and Nights in the Forest), will be screened in a digitally restored 4K format. The screening is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Nandan.
This year's festival is a massive cinematic gathering, showcasing an impressive 315 films from 39 different countries. The extensive lineup includes 185 feature films and 30 short films, offering a diverse global experience for attendees.
Sports Honour and Electoral Scrutiny
In the sporting arena, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will formally honour Indian cricketer Richa Ghosh in a ceremony at the iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday. The young wicketkeeper-batter will be presented with a distinctive honour: a gold-plated bat and ball, both signed by legends Sourav Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami.
Parallelly, a dedicated team from the Election Commission (EC) is present in the state until Saturday to closely monitor the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. As part of SIR Day 4 activities, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across West Bengal will continue their door-to-door visits, engaging with voters and distributing enumeration forms.
Voter List Update Progress
The electoral roll revision drive has already seen significant traction. Official data reveals that a staggering more than 2.72 crore enumeration forms have been distributed to voters across the state as of November 7. This large-scale effort underscores the EC's commitment to ensuring an accurate and comprehensive voter list for the state.
