Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta Embrace Unique Roles in Netflix's 'Accused'

Actors Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta, who are set to share the screen in Netflix's upcoming psychological thriller titled 'Accused', have revealed that the plot featuring a woman perpetrator was a key factor in attracting them to the film. The movie, directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, is scheduled to begin streaming later this month, offering audiences a fresh narrative perspective.

Konkona Sen Sharma on the Novel Concept and Research

When asked about her decision to join the project, Konkona Sen Sharma expressed enthusiasm for the idea, describing it as new and uncommon. She emphasized the significant role that research played in shaping the story. "When I received the offer, I was very excited. We have rarely encountered cases where the accused is a woman, as perpetrators are predominantly male," she told ANI.

However, during their research, the writing and direction team discovered that such cases do exist, particularly with documented instances in the United States and the United Kingdom. The script was developed based on this research, which Konkona found highly unusual and compelling.

Pratibha Rannta's Audition Experience and Interest

Pratibha Rannta shared her experience with the audition process, noting that she was given two scenes to read. "I read them, and those scenes captivated me immensely. I had never encountered anything like this before. Director Anubhuti Kashyap saw my audition and appreciated it," she explained, highlighting how the unique content drew her to the role.

Director Anubhuti Kashyap on the Film's Development

Director Anubhuti Kashyap provided insights into the film's origins, stating that it began with just an idea and no written script. She detailed the collaborative effort with writers Yash and Seema over six to eight months to build the story from scratch. "I didn't have a written script initially; I was only presented with an idea. I had never heard of a story where a woman is accused of sexual harassment at work, and I really liked this concept. We started from there and gradually crafted the script," she said.

Premiere Details and Anticipation

The psychological thriller 'Accused' is set to premiere on Netflix on February 27. This film marks a significant addition to the streaming platform's lineup, promising to deliver a thought-provoking and unconventional narrative that challenges traditional storytelling norms in the thriller genre.
