Bihar Partners with Chhaanv Foundation to Empower 160 Acid Attack Survivors
Bihar-Chhaanv Foundation Tie-Up Aims to Support 160 Acid Attack Survivors

In a significant move to empower acid attack survivors, the Bihar Women and Child Development Corporation has joined forces with the Delhi-based Chhaanv Foundation to offer comprehensive rehabilitation support to affected women and children in the state.

Holistic Assistance for Survivors

Under this initiative, approximately 160 survivors from across Bihar will receive holistic assistance encompassing medical treatment, education, skill development, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The programme aims to address not only physical recovery but also the social, economic, and psychological challenges faced by survivors.

Government Commitment to Dignity

Bandana Preyashi, managing director of the corporation, stated that acid attack survivors often come from marginalised sections of society and face lifelong struggles. She emphasised that the state government is committed to restoring their dignity and reintegrating them into mainstream society through a coordinated support system. The initiative ensures legal aid, quality healthcare, psychosocial counselling, and effective rehabilitation to help survivors become self-reliant.

Special Rehabilitation Programme

As part of the collaboration, a special 20-day rehabilitation programme is currently underway at the Youth Hostel on Fraser Road in Patna. The programme, which began on April 15 and will continue till May 5, involves the Chhaanv Foundation’s expert team conducting detailed one-on-one assessments of each survivor. Their mental, physical, economic, and social needs are being evaluated through personalised counselling and in-depth interactions.

Long-Term Commitment

Both organisations have committed to making the initiative long-term, with the aim of building a robust, inclusive, and sensitive support system for acid attack survivors in Bihar. This collaborative effort seeks to create lasting change and provide a sustainable pathway to recovery and empowerment.
