Delhi Businessman Arrested in Tumakuru for Sophisticated Online Fraud Involving Fake Weight-Loss Products
In a significant crackdown on counterfeit goods, Tumakuru police have arrested a 56-year-old man from Delhi for allegedly operating a sophisticated online scheme that sold fraudulent weight-loss powder and spurious ayurvedic products. The accused, identified as Rajeev Khanna from Shalimar Bagh, was taken into custody following a detailed investigation that uncovered his illicit activities.
Investigation Reveals Elaborate Counterfeiting Operation
During the investigation, police discovered that Rajeev Khanna, along with his sons Himanshu Khanna and Manan Khanna, were involved in filling wheat flour into branded packets of weight-loss powder. This deceptive practice was aimed at duping consumers seeking genuine health products. The sons are currently missing, and authorities are actively searching for them.
A legitimate businessman from Tumakuru, who manufactures the original weight-loss powder, alerted police to the fraud. She reported that the accused were using her brand name to sell spurious materials, damaging her reputation and misleading customers.
Police Raid and Seizure of Counterfeit Goods
Acting on this information, Tumakuru police conducted a raid on Khanna's godown on March 27. During the operation, they seized a large quantity of products packed under various brand names, all suspected to be counterfeit. The seizure included the fake weight-loss powder and other ayurvedic items that were being marketed online.
"We produced Khanna before a court in Delhi and brought him to Tumakuru on a transit warrant. He has been remanded in judicial custody," stated an investigating officer involved in the case. This legal process ensures that the accused will face charges in the appropriate jurisdiction.
Broader Implications for Consumer Safety and Online Fraud
This case highlights the growing issue of online fraud involving health and wellness products. Consumers are increasingly targeted by counterfeit operations that exploit popular brands and ayurvedic traditions. Authorities emphasize the importance of verifying product authenticity and purchasing from reputable sources to avoid such scams.
The arrest serves as a warning to others involved in similar illicit activities, as law enforcement agencies ramp up efforts to combat counterfeit goods in the digital marketplace. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the missing sons and uncover the full extent of the network.
