Pradosh day is one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu religion. This day is entirely dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On the sacred day of Pradosh, devotees worship them with devotion and pure intentions, offering sincere prayers to Lord Shiva and seeking his blessings. When Pradosh falls on a Thursday, it is known as Guru Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh occurs twice a month, during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. In the month of May, the Guru Pradosh Vrat will take place on the Trayodashi tithi of Shukla Paksha in Adhik Jyeshtha Maas, which corresponds to May 28, 2026.

Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Significance
Pradosh Vrat is one of the most sacred days in Hinduism. The day is devoted to Lord Shiva, and devotees offer their sincere prayers to the Lord. Pradosh falls twice a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. This time, it occurs during Shukla Paksha, and since Purushottam Maas is ongoing, this Pradosh Vrat becomes special and unique. Devotees who fast and pray fervently are considered highly devoted. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati bestow bliss and fulfill the desires of such devotees. According to Hindu mythology and scriptures, Lord Shiva performed the Tandava dance to control the demon Apasmara. Worshiping the idol of Lord Natraj is a way for people experiencing despair, anxiety, or negative thoughts to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Puja Rituals
- Devotees wake up early and take a holy bath.
- Place an idol of Shiva Parivaar and light a diya with pure cow ghee.
- Offer dry fruits, flowers, garlands, and homemade sweets.
- During Gaudhooli (evening twilight), perform the Pradosh Puja.
- In the evening, recite the Pradosh Vrat Katha and chant the Panchakshari and Mahamritryunjaya mantras.
- After the puja and aarti are completed, everyone in the family must receive bhog prasad before breaking the fast.
- On the day of Pradosh, devotees are encouraged to eat sattvic cuisine and are not allowed to consume meat, onions, garlic, eggs, or alcohol.
