Jadavpur University VC Urges Coordinated Care for Campus Dogs
JU VC Appeals for Coordinated Campus Dog Care

Kolkata: Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharjee has issued an appeal to all stakeholders, urging them to refrain from undertaking any unofficial or independent initiatives concerning campus dogs. This includes activities such as vaccination drives, sterilization efforts, identity-tagging, and medical treatment. The VC emphasized that uncoordinated interventions by various stakeholders are leading to confusion and misunderstandings regarding the status, treatment, and overall management of the campus dogs.

Call for Coordinated Efforts

In his appeal, Bhattacharjee requested all stakeholders to submit their proposals and suggestions to the university's animal welfare committee. This committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing and implementing a comprehensive mechanism for the care, treatment, identification, vaccination, sterilization, and overall management of campus dogs. The VC stressed the importance of a systematic approach to ensure the welfare of the animals and the safety of the university community.

Commitment to Animal Welfare

The Vice-Chancellor stated, "The welfare of animals in a large educational institution requires a comprehensive, systematic, and professionally coordinated approach that is consistent with established animal welfare protocols and mindful of the safety of all members of the university community." He further reiterated that the university is committed to safeguarding the well-being of the animals that share the campuses, while also ensuring the safety, comfort, and interests of students, employees, residents, visitors, and all other users of the campus.
