Swedish Delegation Explores Ayurvedic Practices at National Institute in Panchkula

A delegation from Sweden visited the National Institute of Ayurveda in Panchkula on Monday to gain insights into Ayurvedic treatment methods. The group expressed appreciation for the traditional Indian system of medicine practiced at the institute, highlighting its effectiveness and growing popularity in European countries.

Delegation's Visit and Appreciation

Led by Gabija Gadliauskaite and Rita Zilenaite, the Swedish delegation was received by Dr Gaurav Garg, the medical superintendent of the National Institute of Ayurveda. Dr Garg informed the visitors that the institute operates under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, providing treatment through Ayurvedic medical practices under the guidance of vice-chancellor Sanjeev Sharma and dean Gulab Chand Pamnani.

The delegation praised the institute for establishing a distinct identity in Ayurvedic treatment. They noted that the demand for Ayurvedic treatment is increasing in European countries, with people's trust in Ayurveda becoming stronger. Many patients in several European nations are benefiting from Indian systems of medicine, according to the delegation leaders.

Tour of Institute Facilities

Medical officer Dr Shinsha organized a comprehensive tour of the institute for the delegation, explaining in detail the outpatient department (OPD) and inpatient department (IPD) facilities. The visitors explored various sections, including:

  • The OPD and IPD sections
  • The Panchakarma unit
  • The central laboratory
  • The physiotherapy unit
  • The pharmacy
  • The registration branch
  • The operation theatre

Dr Garg further highlighted that the institute serves approximately 400 to 500 patients daily across its 12 OPDs, where they are treated by specialist doctors using Ayurvedic methods.

Background of the Delegation

The Swedish delegation is visiting India under the leadership of Swami Aditya, coordinator of the Indo-Baltic Society for Consciousness based in Lithuania. As part of their tour, they have visited various states in India, including tourist destinations as well as educational and Ayurveda-related institutions, to deepen their understanding of Indian culture and traditional medicine.

This visit underscores the global interest in Ayurveda and its potential to contribute to healthcare systems worldwide, reinforcing the National Institute of Ayurveda's role as a premier center for traditional medicine education and practice.
