Tragic Self-Immolation in Ahmedabad's Ghodasar Area
A deeply distressing incident has shaken the Ghodasar locality of Ahmedabad, where a 72-year-old woman is believed to have taken her own life by setting herself on fire. The event occurred on Tuesday, with a CCTV recording of the tragedy subsequently circulating widely on social media platforms.
Police Investigation Points to Health and Isolation
According to officials from the Vatva police station, preliminary investigations suggest the elderly woman had been living alone for an extended period while grappling with significant health problems. Authorities indicated that the emotional burden of her illness, compounded by profound loneliness, likely drove her to this extreme and fatal action.
It was reported that her daughter resides separately, and the woman, identified as Patel, was staying by herself in the Ghodasar neighborhood. This isolation appears to have been a critical factor in the unfolding of this heartbreaking event.
Family Response and Official Proceedings
Local residents discovered the incident and promptly notified the woman's family members. Her relatives rushed to the scene and contacted the police. However, by the time a Vatva police team arrived, the woman had already succumbed to her severe burn injuries.
No suicide note was recovered at the location. Family members informed the police that she had been suffering from a prolonged illness, which aligns with the initial investigative findings. In response, the police have registered an accidental death case as part of their standard procedural protocol.
This incident underscores the severe challenges faced by elderly individuals dealing with health issues in isolation, highlighting a pressing social concern in urban settings.
