Andhra Pradesh Launches Intensive Food Safety Drive After Milk-Related Deaths
In a decisive response to a tragic incident, food safety officials and vigilance department teams carried out extensive inspections at milk parlours across three districts in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. This urgent action follows the reported deaths of five individuals and mass hospitalisations in Rajahmundry, allegedly due to the consumption of adulterated milk.
District-Wide Inspections Target Milk Safety
Under the directives of Kadapa District Collector Dr. Sreedhar Cherukuri, food safety authorities initiated a comprehensive sweep of milk parlours in Kadapa. Multiple samples were collected during these inspections and have been dispatched for detailed laboratory analysis to detect any adulterants or contaminants.
Simultaneously, in Anantapur, Food Safety Officer Tasleem led her team in scrutinising various milk parlours and local dairies. Officials emphasised during media interactions that all vendors, including unauthorised suppliers, must obtain mandatory FSSAI licences to ensure compliance with national food safety standards.
Focus on Compliance and Chilling Methods
The inspections also involved a thorough examination of milk chilling techniques employed by local dairies. Authorities issued strict cautions to dairy operators, urging them to adhere rigorously to established food safety norms to prevent health hazards.
In Kurnool, vigilance teams collaborated with food safety officials to inspect milk parlours throughout the city. This coordinated effort underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding public health and cracking down on negligent practices in the milk supply chain.
The drive highlights ongoing concerns over milk adulteration in the region, with officials vowing to continue monitoring and enforcing regulations to prevent future tragedies.
