Bee Swarm Triggers Panic at Ujjain's Mata Tekri Shrine, Eight Injured

Panic erupted at the Mata Tekri shrine in Ujjain on Saturday afternoon when a sudden bee attack near the Chhoti Mata Chamunda Temple left eight people injured. The incident, which occurred around 3:30 pm, involved both devotees and security personnel, leading to chaotic scenes as people scrambled for safety.

Chaotic Scenes Unfold as Swarm Descends

According to eyewitness accounts, the attack began with a single bee stinging individuals before a full swarm quickly descended upon the temple premises. This unexpected onslaught caused devotees to run for cover, resulting in stampede-like conditions that heightened the sense of emergency. The area was crowded with worshippers gathered for darshan at the time, exacerbating the confusion and fear.

Injured Individuals Receive Medical Attention

Among those injured were Seema Kothari, 43, from Mhow; Vinita Prasad, 65, from Indore; and Ayush Kothari, 21. Additionally, two policemen on duty, a woman security guard, and another individual sustained stings. All injured parties were promptly transported to the district hospital for treatment, where they received necessary medical care.

Authorities Respond with Immediate Action

Kapil Gurjar, in-charge of the Maa Chamunda Shaskiya Devasthan Prabandhan Samiti, confirmed the details, stating, "Three devotees and four staff members were injured in the incident. As soon as we received information, we reached the hospital and ensured treatment." He further noted that, under the direction of the forest department, efforts have commenced to remove beehives from the Mata Tekri premises to prevent future occurrences.

The swift response from local authorities and temple management helped mitigate the situation, but the incident has raised concerns about safety measures at religious sites. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the bee attack and to implement preventive strategies.
