A tragic incident occurred in Ghoskedih village on the border of Koderma and Giridih districts on Saturday, where a 10-year-old boy was killed and a 13-year-old suffered burn injuries after being struck by lightning while plucking berries.
Victims Identified
The deceased has been identified as Abhineet Kumar, son of Prakash Kumar Yadav, a farmer. Abhineet was a Class 7 student at the village school and is survived by two brothers and two sisters. The injured boy is Satish Yadav, son of Mahesh Yadav.
Mother Recounts Incident
Abhineet’s mother, Munni Devi, said that her son had just returned home from school in the afternoon. “He did not even change his school uniform before heading out with his friends to gather fruit from a nearby tree. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the area, severely injuring both Abhineet and Satish,” she said.
Rescue and Medical Response
Family members rushed to the spot and immediately took the boys to the community health centre at Markachho in Koderma. While Satish’s condition improved after treatment, Abhineet turned critical and was referred to Sadar hospital in Koderma, where he succumbed to his injuries.
