In a distressing incident, approximately 20 artistes from a Jatra troupe sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in overturned at Palunipada Bhograpala Ghati under Reamal police limits in Deogarh district, Odisha. The accident occurred early on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Accident

The bus was carrying 25 individuals, including members of a western Odisha opera troupe, as they returned from a performance at Dangapathar village. According to preliminary reports, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating the treacherous terrain of Palunipada Bhograpala Ghati. The bus overturned around 8 am on Sunday, leading to chaos and immediate rescue efforts.

Local residents swiftly rushed to the scene, demonstrating commendable community spirit by assisting in the rescue of the injured. Reamal police officials arrived promptly after being alerted, coordinating the emergency response. All injured persons, including the driver, were initially taken to Kansar Primary Health Centre (PHC) for urgent medical attention.

Medical Response and Hospitalization

Following preliminary treatment at the PHC, seven individuals with grievous injuries were transferred to the Deogarh district headquarters hospital for advanced care. They have been admitted and are under close medical supervision. The remaining injured artistes received treatment for minor to moderate wounds, with authorities ensuring comprehensive medical support.

Police Investigation Underway

Reamal police have seized the bus involved in the accident as part of their ongoing investigation. Binay Kerketta, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Reamal police station, confirmed, "We have seized the bus and our investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident." Authorities are examining factors such as road conditions, vehicle maintenance, and driver error to prevent similar incidents in the future.
