Chandigarh is bracing for an intense heatwave as temperatures continue to climb across the Tricity. According to the weather department, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh is projected to rise from 40 degrees Celsius on May 24 to a scorching 44 degrees Celsius by May 28.
Weather Forecast for the Next Five Days
The weather department has forecast partly cloudy to mainly clear skies over the next five days. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely at several places in Chandigarh. Additionally, gusty winds and isolated thunderstorm activity may occur during this period.
Recent Temperature Readings
On Saturday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above normal. The minimum temperature settled at 24.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. Relative humidity levels ranged between 45% and 72%, adding to the discomfort caused by the scorching heat.
IMD Advisory and Precautions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and wear light-coloured cotton clothes to prevent heat-related illnesses. Authorities have also called for precautions against heat stroke and dehydration as extreme summer conditions persist across the region.
