CINI Marks 52nd Foundation Day with Launch of Holistic Healthcare Initiative Shubhayu in Kolkata

The Child In Need Institute (CINI) celebrated its 52nd Foundation Day in Kolkata with a significant milestone: the launch of Shubhayu, a comprehensive preventive healthcare and wellness initiative. This new program is strategically designed to address India's escalating burden of non-communicable diseases and long-term health challenges, marking a pivotal shift in the organization's approach to public health.

A Strategic Shift Towards Preventive and Life-Course Healthcare

During the commemorative event, founder secretary Samir Chaudhuri unveiled CINI's future roadmap, which now places a renewed emphasis on preventive healthcare, life-course wellness, and the strengthening of community-based health systems. The initiative was formally inaugurated by CINI CEO Indrani Bhattacharya, symbolizing a strategic transition towards a life-course approach to health and well-being. This move reinforces CINI's longstanding commitment to preventive care and robust community health infrastructures.

Shubhayu: A Holistic Model for Health and Well-being

Project Shubhayu is envisioned as a holistic model that transcends conventional healthcare delivery systems. It is conceptualized as a way of life, integrating multiple dimensions of well-being:

  • Physical Health: Focusing on early risk identification and management.
  • Mental Well-being: Addressing psychological health concerns.
  • Social Security: Ensuring community support and safety nets.
  • Environmental Harmony: Promoting sustainable and healthy living environments.
  • Human Dignity: Upholding the rights and respect of all individuals.

The initiative aims to foster healthy living across all life stages, from pre-conception to old age, with a core focus on sustained behavior change and continuity of care.

Addressing Post-COVID Health Challenges

In her address to the gathering, Indrani Bhattacharya highlighted the urgent need for such an initiative in the face of rising health issues like diabetes, hypertension, anemia, nutrition-related disorders, and mental health concerns, particularly exacerbated in the post-COVID era. She emphasized that Shubhayu would serve as a preventive and equitable healthcare platform for diverse communities, aiming to mitigate these growing challenges through proactive measures.

On-Site Health Screenings and Distinguished Attendees

As part of the launch event, CINI conducted on-site health screenings for attendees, including tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, and other preliminary health parameters. This practical demonstration underscored the initiative's commitment to early detection and preventive care.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including:

  1. Dilip Mandal, Minister of State for Transport.
  2. Tulika Das, Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR).
  3. Ananya Chakraborty Chatterjee, Advisor to WBCPCR.

They were joined by senior stakeholders and partners, reflecting broad-based support for this innovative healthcare initiative.

CINI's launch of Shubhayu represents a forward-thinking step in India's healthcare landscape, aiming to transform how communities approach health and wellness through prevention and holistic care.
