INDORE: Two additional workers who were injured in the firecracker factory explosion at Tonk Kalan in Dewas district on May 14 have succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Indore's MY Hospital late Friday night. This brings the total number of fatalities in the tragedy to eight.
Details of the Victims
MY Hospital superintendent Ashok Yadav confirmed that four victims from the Dewas blast were admitted to the hospital: Ram (20), son of Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Arariya; Niranjan (30), son of Hiralalram; Ajay, son of Nanu Paswan; and Vishal (25). Ram passed away on Monday, while Ajay and Niranjan died on Saturday. According to doctors, both Ajay and Niranjan had sustained critical burn injuries covering over 80% of their bodies. Despite intensive medical care, their condition remained extremely serious, leaving doctors with limited chances of recovery.
Other Patients' Conditions
Vishal, 25, was admitted to the neurosurgery department a day after the incident after complaining of vomiting and dizziness. Doctors have been closely monitoring his condition and have indicated that he is expected to be discharged soon. Meanwhile, at Choithram Hospital in Indore, three out of four injured workers—Amit Dave (19), Amit Mandal (19), Laltu (22), and Roshan (19)—admitted after the explosion have already been discharged. One patient remains under observation and is likely to be discharged shortly, according to hospital authorities.
Background of the Incident
The explosion occurred at an illegal firecracker unit in Tonk Kalan, triggering a massive blaze that left several workers critically injured. Many were trapped inside the premises when the blast occurred. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
