Hyderabad: Telangana revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Saturday stated that 16 individuals have succumbed to the severe heatwave conditions prevailing across the state during the ongoing summer season. Reviewing the heatwave situation with officials, the minister noted that the deaths were reported from seven districts, based on reports submitted by district Collectors.
According to data shared by the government, four deaths were recorded in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, while three deaths each occurred in Warangal Urban, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad. One death each was reported from Jogulamba Gadwal, Ranga Reddy, and Suryapet districts.
The minister announced that the state government would provide an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those who died due to the heatwave, as per an official release. The announcement comes as temperatures continue to soar across the state, with authorities urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The Telangana government has been monitoring the situation closely and has directed officials to ensure that medical facilities are adequately prepared to handle heat-related illnesses. The ex-gratia payment is intended to provide immediate financial relief to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
