Recovery and Investigation Efforts
Local fire brigade personnel and community members worked together to recover all five bodies on Wednesday. The bodies were subsequently sent for autopsy to determine the exact circumstances surrounding each drowning incident.
Details of the Separate Incidents
According to local reports, Sonu Yadav drowned while bathing in a pond at Jajpur Road, where he was employed with a private company. In a separate incident, Sanjay Mohapatra's death occurred in the Beluakhai river.
"While entering the Beluakhai river, one steps into a deep pit. This is the main reason behind the death of Sanjaya Mohapatra," explained Ranjan Mohapatra, a local resident familiar with the area's geography.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
The multiple drownings have raised serious concerns about water safety, particularly during festive periods when people often gather near water bodies for recreational activities. The incidents highlight the need for increased awareness about potential hazards in local rivers and ponds, especially regarding sudden depth changes and underwater obstacles.
The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of water safety measures and supervision during celebratory occasions that involve water activities.
