The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida has inaugurated a specialized clinic dedicated to treating children born with clubfoot, a common congenital deformity that can result in permanent disability if not addressed promptly. The clinic was opened to coincide with World Clubfoot Day, highlighting the importance of early intervention.
Understanding Clubfoot
Medically referred to as congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV), clubfoot occurs in approximately one out of every 1,000 live births and is more prevalent in boys. In India, an estimated 30,000 children are born with this condition annually. The deformity causes one or both feet to turn inward and downward at birth, which can impede walking and daily activities if corrective treatment is delayed.
Clinic Details and Services
According to GIMS officials, the clinic will operate every Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, offering comprehensive care under one roof. Services include evaluation, serial casting, bracing, and follow-up care based on globally accepted treatment protocols. Notably, braces will be provided free of charge with support from Cure International.

Orthopaedic specialists noted that the new facility aims not only to provide treatment but also to raise awareness among parents, paediatricians, and frontline health workers that clubfoot is a correctable condition.
