Nine-Year-Old Girl Dies After Injection at Gorakhpur Medical Store
A tragic incident unfolded in Gorakhpur's Uruwa area on Sunday evening, where a nine-year-old girl allegedly died after receiving an injection at a local medical store. The girl, who had been suffering from cough and cold symptoms, was taken to the store by her mother, only to collapse and pass away shortly after the injection was administered.
Details of the Incident
The girl, hailing from Masuriya village, was brought to a medical store in Jauharabad by her mother around 4 pm. She was experiencing cough and fever, and the store operator allegedly gave her an injection. Following this, her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her collapse and subsequent death.
Her mother has accused the store operator of locking up the shop and fleeing immediately after the girl's health worsened. This has prompted a swift response from local authorities.
Police Investigation and Official Statements
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the mother's complaint and have launched a manhunt to track down the accused store operator. Bansgaon Station House Officer Jitendra Kumar Singh stated that the postmortem report will be crucial in determining the exact cause of death.
Uruwa medical officer in charge J P Tiwari emphasized that medical stores are only authorized to sell medicines and are not permitted to administer injections or provide any form of treatment. Tiwari confirmed that a detailed report has been forwarded to the chief medical officer and deputy CMO for further action, highlighting the seriousness of the violation.
Broader Implications
This incident raises significant concerns about healthcare practices and regulatory compliance in medical stores. The unauthorized administration of injections by untrained personnel poses severe risks to public health, as evidenced by this unfortunate event.
Authorities are now focused on apprehending the store operator and ensuring that such violations are addressed to prevent future tragedies. The community is left mourning the loss of a young life, while calls for stricter enforcement of healthcare regulations grow louder.
