Umesh Raut, a family member of the victims who was traveling in another vehicle directly behind the pickup truck, provided a harrowing account of the incident. "We had attended a function and were returning when the pickup truck started rolling backwards on the hill road. It struck a tree and overturned, killing several people instantly," Raut recounted.
A police officer confirmed the grim statistics, stating, "So far, we have confirmed eight deaths, with at least five individuals in critical condition. Several others sustained injuries but are now out of immediate danger." Those with severe injuries were referred to Valsad Civil Hospital for urgent specialized care.
