Himachal Pradesh Fast-Tracks Medical Equipment Procurement to Modernize Healthcare Services

In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, Health and Family Welfare Minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) has issued directives to officials to accelerate the procurement of advanced medical equipment across Himachal Pradesh. The announcement was made during a special high-power purchase committee meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL) held on Thursday.

Commitment to Advanced Medical Care

Minister Shandil emphasized the state government's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality and advanced medical care to citizens, ensuring services are accessible at their doorstep. He highlighted a landmark achievement: the introduction of robotic surgery in the state for the first time, marking a major step forward in medical technology adoption.

Substantial investments have already been made, with nearly Rs 1,110 crore allocated to improve healthcare infrastructure. Key projects under this initiative include the establishment of the State Cancer Institute, trauma centres, cancer day care facilities, medical colleges, and Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans, all aimed at enhancing patient care and treatment outcomes.

International Support and Funding

The health sector is receiving further reinforcement through collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Under JICA Phase I, a substantial Rs 1,710 crore has been earmarked specifically for procuring state-of-the-art medical equipment. Additionally, a Rs 1,617-crore work plan under Phase II has been submitted for approval to further upgrade healthcare infrastructure, demonstrating a long-term vision for medical excellence.

Transparent Procurement and Expedited Processes

Minister Shandil underscored the critical role of HPMSCL in ensuring transparent and quality procurement processes. He instructed officials to expedite tendering procedures to avoid delays in acquiring essential medical tools. The meeting focused on enhancing diagnostic services and purchasing advanced equipment, including:

  • Laparoscopic surgery sets
  • FESS endoscopy units
  • Multipara monitors
  • Surgical consumables

Approvals for Key Procurements

During the meeting, approval was granted for the tender document related to several crucial procurements. These include:

  1. Biomedical equipment for block primary healthcare units
  2. Supply of 13 single-puncture laparoscopes
  3. Establishment of track-based integrated total lab automation systems at government medical colleges in Hamirpur, Tanda, and AIMSS Chamiyana, Shimla

This comprehensive approach aims to modernize healthcare facilities, reduce patient wait times, and improve overall medical service delivery across the state.
