Indore: After stray dogs attacked and injured more than 40 people on Sanwer Road on Friday, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Saturday deployed two specialised teams and captured 25 stray dogs from the affected area. The attacks, which occurred around 8 am on Friday, began when a stray dog entered the Aurobindo Hospital campus through the rear gate. The animal attacked 16 individuals, including doctors, nurses, medical students, patients, and security guards, before being chased out of the campus.
Following this initial incident, additional dog attacks were reported in neighbouring areas such as Revati Range, Bardari village, and the campuses of LNCT College, Renaissance College, and Narsee Monjee College. These incidents caused widespread fear among residents and students. All victims received prompt medical care, including anti-rabies vaccinations at Aurobindo Hospital and other local healthcare facilities.
Locals and hospital authorities urged the IMC to immediately capture the aggressive dogs to prevent further attacks. IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal stated that the containment operation is ongoing, and additional teams will be deployed if necessary. Municipal authorities have requested citizens to report any suspicious or aggressive canines directly to the corporation’s central control room.
According to Dr Rupendra Patel, in-charge of the government-run Hukumchand Polyclinic, dog bite incidents remain high in the city. The facility treats an average of 200 dog bite cases daily, highlighting the persistent problem of stray dog menace in Indore.
