Jharkhand Moves to Ease Doctor Registration for Specialist Healthcare
Jharkhand Eases Doctor Registration Rules for Specialists

The Jharkhand health department has taken a significant step to enhance access to specialist healthcare by initiating amendments to Rule-55 of the Jharkhand State Medical Council Rules, 2023. Currently, this rule mandates separate state registration for doctors arriving from other states, creating procedural hurdles that affect the availability of advanced medical services in the region.

Meeting Discusses Changes

On Thursday, a meeting chaired by Chhavi Ranjan, nodal officer of the department of health, medical education and family welfare, addressed the issue. Representatives from the Jharkhand Medical Council and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) participated in the discussions.

Under the existing regulations, all doctors practicing in Jharkhand must obtain registration with the Jharkhand State Medical Council, even if they are already registered with the National Medical Commission or another state medical council. Officials noted that this requirement often creates unnecessary procedural difficulties for specialist doctors coming from outside the state, thereby limiting the availability of advanced medical care in Jharkhand.

Recommendations for Amendment

During the meeting, members unanimously agreed to send recommendations to the state government seeking necessary amendments to Rule-55. The goal is to simplify the process for qualified and registered doctors from other states to practice in Jharkhand.

“The proposed amendment aims to make specialist healthcare services more accessible in the state by reducing unnecessary procedural barriers for experienced doctors from outside Jharkhand,” the health department stated in an official communique.

This move is expected to attract more specialist doctors to Jharkhand, thereby improving the quality and reach of healthcare services, particularly in underserved areas. The amendment is seen as a crucial step towards bridging the gap in specialist healthcare availability in the state.
