Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has reiterated the state government's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery systems and promoting early diagnosis of medical conditions. He made these remarks while speaking at the annual conference of the Indian Society of Cleft Lip Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies (ISCLPCA) – Indocleftcon 2026, held at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysuru.
Focus on Early Detection and Treatment
Rao emphasized that early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment, especially for conditions like cleft lip and palate. The government is working to integrate advanced diagnostic tools and training programs across primary health centers to ensure timely intervention. He also highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and encourage families to seek medical help early.
Strengthening Infrastructure and Training
The minister outlined plans to upgrade healthcare infrastructure in rural and urban areas. This includes setting up specialized units for craniofacial surgeries and speech therapy, as well as training healthcare workers in identifying congenital anomalies. The state is collaborating with national and international experts to adopt best practices.

Rao praised the role of institutions like the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in advancing research and treatment. He called for more public-private partnerships to expand access to affordable care. The conference brought together surgeons, speech therapists, and researchers to discuss innovations in cleft lip and craniofacial care.
