Holi Celebrations in Lucknow Leave Over 800 Injured, 300 Seriously
Lucknow Holi: 800+ Injured, 300 Serious Cases Reported

Holi Festivities in Lucknow Result in Over 800 Injuries, Including 300 Serious Cases

The vibrant Holi celebrations in Lucknow took a tragic turn this year, with city hospitals reporting a staggering influx of over 800 injured individuals. Among these, approximately 300 patients sustained serious injuries, many requiring intensive medical care and surgical intervention. The majority of these distressing incidents have been directly attributed to reckless behaviors such as drunken driving and excessive speeding on the roads.

Severe Injuries and Hospital Overload

Medical authorities confirmed that numerous victims suffered from critical head injuries, deep facial lacerations, and multiple fractures. Alarmingly, about six patients are currently on ventilator support, highlighting the severity of their conditions. The emergency response system was stretched thin as hospitals began receiving a continuous stream of patients starting from Tuesday night, with the rush persisting throughout the Holi festivities.

Several motorcyclists and car drivers, operating their vehicles under the influence of alcohol, lost control, causing accidents that injured not only themselves but also pedestrians and other road users. This reckless conduct led to a chaotic scene across multiple medical facilities in the city.

Major Hospitals Overwhelmed with Patients

Emergency wards at key government and private hospitals were inundated with long queues of injured individuals seeking urgent treatment. At the KGMU Trauma Centre, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Premraj Singh reported that 248 patients had arrived by the afternoon, including 72 victims of road accidents. He noted that several patients presented with serious head injuries, and over ten had suffered fractures requiring immediate attention.

Balrampur Hospital witnessed a significant surge, with CMS Dr. Himanshu Chaturvedi stating that 365 patients reported to the emergency OPD, leading to 51 admissions. Additionally, twenty-one patients required stitches for their wounds. Lokbandhu Hospital's Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ajay Shankar Tripathi, detailed that 487 patients reached the emergency ward within a 24-hour period, with 60 of these injuries linked directly to Holi-related road accidents. Thirty-seven patients were admitted, while others received primary treatment and were discharged.

Widespread Impact Across Medical Facilities

The Civil Hospital treated 70 patients, admitting 17 due to the severity of their injuries. Meanwhile, the emergency services at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) attended to 246 patients, with 30 requiring hospitalization. The Apex Trauma Centre at SGPGI admitted over 20 of the 74 injured patients brought in for care.

Further adding to the crisis, over 75 patients were admitted at Rani Laxmibai Hospital, Thakurganj Joint Hospital, Bhaurao Deoras Hospital in Mahanagar, and Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital in BKT. Private hospitals across Lucknow also reported treating more than 100 patients, underscoring the extensive reach of the holiday-related injuries.

This incident has raised serious concerns about public safety during festive seasons, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and increased awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies in the future.
