Ludhiana Drug Control Seizes Pregabalin, Tramadol in Raid on Pharma Firm
Ludhiana Pharma Firm Raid: Pregabalin, Tramadol Seized

Drugs Control Department Uncovers Violations at Ludhiana Pharmaceutical Firm

Acting on a credible tip-off, the Drugs Control Department in Ludhiana conducted a targeted inspection at a pharmaceutical company located in the New Chander Nagar area. The firm, identified as Life Medicare, was found to be in serious violation of regulatory standards during this operation.

Discovery of Unauthorized Allopathic Medicines

During the thorough inspection, officials discovered that Life Medicare was stocking four distinct varieties of allopathic medicines containing the controlled substance Pregabalin. Pregabalin is a prescription medication often used for neuropathic pain and anxiety disorders, and its distribution is strictly regulated under Indian law.

Critical documentation failure: When asked to provide mandatory purchase records for these Pregabalin-based medicines as required by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the firm's management failed to produce any such documentation. This lack of proper records represents a significant breach of pharmaceutical compliance protocols.

Seizure of Medicines and Additional Findings

In response to these violations, authorities immediately seized all the Pregabalin-containing medicines found on the premises. The total value of the confiscated medications was approximately Rs 23,408. The seizure was conducted under the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, which governs pharmaceutical standards across India.

Further investigation revealed more serious infractions: During additional checking of the facility, officials recovered a substantial quantity of psychotropic drug tablets. Specifically, they found 2,376 tablets of Tramadol, a potent pain medication that falls under the category of controlled psychotropic substances.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

Since Tramadol is classified as a psychotropic substance, the recovered tablets were promptly handed over to the Jagatpuri Police Post for appropriate legal action. The police have taken swift measures in response to this discovery.

ASI Sukhwinder Singh, the investigation officer from the Jagatpuri police post, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been officially lodged against the accused individual. The FIR names Rajeev Kumar of Haibowal as the responsible party in this case.

This enforcement action highlights the ongoing efforts by drug control authorities to monitor pharmaceutical distribution channels and prevent the unauthorized circulation of controlled substances. The case underscores the importance of maintaining proper documentation and compliance with pharmaceutical regulations to ensure public safety.
