A 21-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning while working in a field in Bokaro district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Raju Mahato, a resident of Kandra village under the Jaridih police station area.
According to police, Mahato was working in his field when a sudden thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain struck the area. Around 4 pm, a bolt of lightning hit him, killing him on the spot. Other villagers working nearby rushed to help but found him unconscious. He was taken to a nearby primary health centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident occurred amid a spell of unseasonal rain in the region. The weather department had earlier warned of thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of Jharkhand. The victim's family has been informed, and the body has been handed over after post-mortem.
Precautionary Measures
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions during thunderstorms, such as staying indoors, avoiding open fields, and not taking shelter under trees. Lightning strikes are common during pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons in the state.
This is the second such incident in Bokaro in the past month. Earlier, a farmer was killed in a similar incident in the Chas block. The district administration has advised people to follow safety guidelines issued by the disaster management department.
