Fire Force Scuba Team Recovers Body of Missing Man from Thodupuzha River
In a tragic incident, the body of a man who went missing while bathing in the Thodupuzha River was successfully recovered by a fire force scuba team on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Mohandas, aged 69, a resident of Manakkad in Thodupuzha.
Details of the Incident
Mohandas had ventured to bathe at a ghat near his residence around 7 PM on Tuesday evening. However, he was reportedly swept away by the strong currents of the river. When he failed to return after an extended period, his concerned relatives initiated a search. They discovered his scooter and personal belongings, including his clothes, abandoned near the riverbank, prompting immediate alarm.
Search and Recovery Operation
Upon being alerted, the fire and rescue services swiftly launched a search operation under the leadership of Station Officer Piju P Thomas. The team, equipped with scuba gear, combed the river area intensively. After hours of effort, the body was finally located and recovered near the ghat close to the Manakkad temple, not far from where he had entered the water.
Aftermath and Family
The body was transported to Thodupuzha District Hospital for a postmortem examination, following which it was handed over to his grieving relatives. Mohandas is survived by his wife, Sujaya, who works as a document writer in Thodupuzha, and his children Ananthu and Anjitha, along with his son-in-law Amal, all of whom are currently residing in Dubai. The community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting the dangers of bathing in rivers with strong currents, especially during evening hours.
