A tragic incident occurred at Merchant College of Nursing on the Mehsana–Visnagar road in Palanpur, where a first-year nursing student allegedly ended her life by hanging in her hostel room on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Asmita Patel, a native of Rumla village in Chikhli taluka of Navsari district.

According to police reports, Asmita was staying alone in her room within the college hostel. The incident came to light when the hostel cleaner knocked on her door on Friday morning and received no response. The door was subsequently forced open, and Asmita was found hanging inside the room.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Milap Patel stated that no suicide note was recovered from the room. The motive behind the drastic step is yet to be ascertained. Authorities are planning to speak with her parents, college officials, and friends to gather more information. The police have also seized her mobile phone for forensic analysis and call detail records as part of the investigation.
