Panipuri Stall Removed in Ahmedabad After Bone Found in Food

A panipuri stall located outside the Ranip bus terminal in Ahmedabad was dismantled by civic authorities on Saturday, following a complaint from a woman who discovered a bone in her panipuri. The incident, which occurred on Friday night, gained widespread attention after a video of the confrontation went viral on social media.

Incident Details

The woman, accompanied by her mother, visited the Krishna Bhel Pakodi stall in front of the Ranip bus terminal around 6:30 pm on Friday. While eating panipuri, she first encountered a hair in the first serving but chose to overlook it. However, upon consuming the last panipuri, she found a bone. When she brought the issue to the vendor's attention, the vendor dismissed the object as a piece of wood. The woman then showed the bone to four other customers, who confirmed it was indeed a bone. When the vendor attempted to cut it, he realized it was a bone and apologized, claiming it might have accidentally fallen into the panipuri.

In the viral video, the woman expressed her distress, stating, 'I have never eaten non-veg in my life, so who is responsible for the bone in our panipuri? We complained, but nothing happened, and now they just say sorry.'

Action Taken by Authorities

Following the video's circulation, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health department conducted an inspection of the stall on Saturday afternoon. An AMC official reported that the woman and her mother declined to pursue the matter further. However, the health department found the stall operating in unsanitary conditions. The stall owner, Dinesh Teli, was fined Rs 10,000. Additionally, the estate department removed the stall for illegally occupying the road.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about food safety and hygiene at street food stalls in the city. The AMC has urged citizens to report any such issues promptly to ensure public health and safety.
