Late-Night Fire at PGI Chandigarh Research Block, AC Short Circuit Suspected
A fire erupted late on Sunday night in a room situated on the third floor of the research B-block at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh. According to the PGI administration, the blaze is suspected to have originated from a short circuit in the air conditioning unit or its connected electrical equipment.
No Casualties or Major Structural Damage Reported
Fortunately, the incident did not result in any casualties or significant structural harm. Staff members present at the scene reported that the external AC unit was completely charred. The surrounding walls and ceiling were covered in soot and smoke, with remnants of melted plastic and wires scattered across the floor.
Swift Response Prevents Further Spread
Upon noticing the flames, institute security personnel and the fire department were immediately alerted. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to control the fire, effectively preventing it from spreading to adjacent rooms or causing extensive damage to the building's infrastructure.
The administration has confirmed that the situation is now fully under control. An investigation is currently underway to determine the precise cause of the electrical failure that led to the fire. This incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for electrical systems in institutional settings.
