Rajasthan Secures Massive Central Health Funding Boost
In a significant development for healthcare infrastructure, the state of Rajasthan has received substantial central assistance amounting to approximately Rs 2,700 crore over the past four months under pivotal health schemes. This financial injection forms a crucial part of the state's broader health funding landscape.
Detailed Breakdown of Health Scheme Allocations
According to an official statement released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), this released amount falls under the provisions of the 15th Finance Commission. Notably, it represents a major portion of the nearly Rs 4,300 crore that has been allocated to Rajasthan over the preceding five-year period, highlighting sustained central support.
Delving into specific schemes, under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the fiscal year 2025-26, the Central Government has disbursed about Rs 2,398 crore. This figure notably exceeds the initially approved outlay of Rs 2,383 crore, demonstrating an impressive 100.61% utilisation rate and underscoring efficient fund deployment.
Furthermore, Rajasthan has achieved a milestone by receiving its highest-ever allocation of Rs 243 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). This record funding is aimed at bolstering health infrastructure across the state.
Government Officials Highlight Commitment to Healthcare
Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar emphasized the significance of this financial support, stating, "The record funding reflects the state government's commitment under the leadership of the chief minister to strengthen primary healthcare and expand health infrastructure across Rajasthan." This statement underscores the political will driving healthcare improvements.
Adding detailed insights, Principal Secretary of Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore, explained, "Funds received under the 15th Finance Commission have been utilised for strengthening infrastructure, including construction of sub-health centres, PHCs and CHCs, and expansion of diagnostic facilities in both rural and urban areas." This targeted use aims to enhance accessibility and quality of healthcare services statewide.
She further noted, "Expenditure under NHM has shown steady improvement over the years and has reached nearly 98 per cent in 2025-26, which is the highest so far." This indicates a positive trend in fund utilization efficiency, contributing to better healthcare outcomes.
Implications for Rajasthan's Healthcare Landscape
The substantial central assistance is expected to have a transformative impact on Rajasthan's healthcare system. Key areas of focus include:
- Infrastructure Development: Construction and upgrade of sub-health centres, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs).
- Diagnostic Expansion: Enhancement of diagnostic facilities to improve early detection and treatment.
- Primary Healthcare Strengthening: Bolstering foundational health services to cater to grassroots needs.
- Rural and Urban Coverage: Ensuring equitable healthcare access across diverse geographical regions.
This funding boost aligns with broader national health initiatives and reflects a collaborative effort between central and state governments to address healthcare challenges. As Rajasthan continues to leverage these resources, the focus remains on achieving sustainable health infrastructure growth and improved public health metrics for its residents.
