Drug Bust in Tarn Taran: One Arrested with Opium and Poppy

A team from the Patti Sadar police station, under the leadership of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harpal Singh, apprehended an individual and recovered a significant quantity of narcotics from his possession. The operation took place in Tarn Taran district, with the police acting on specific intelligence regarding drug smuggling activities in the area.

The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Sankatra village. During the search, law enforcement officials seized 303 grams of opium, 2.229 kilograms of poppy plants, and a bag containing poppy husk. In addition to the contraband, the police also recovered drug money amounting to Rs 16,000 from the accused, indicating an ongoing illegal trade.

ASI Harpal Singh stated that the accused was actively involved in smuggling opium and other banned substances. The police have registered a case under Sections 15, 81, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These sections pertain to the prohibition of certain operations, punishment for contravention, and other related offenses. The arrest is part of a broader effort by local law enforcement to curb the drug menace in the region.

The police have initiated further investigations to trace the supply chain and identify any other individuals involved in the drug network. The accused will be produced before the relevant court for judicial proceedings.
