Three Critical After C-Section Infection in Kota Hospital

Kota: Three of the four women undergoing treatment after a suspected post-C-section infection at Kota's government New Medical College Hospital remained in critical condition on Friday, even as the cause of the infection that claimed two lives is yet to be established.

Current Status of Patients

Hospital authorities confirmed that three women were placed on dialysis on Friday afternoon, while one patient showed signs of recovery. The four women undergoing treatment were identified as Dhannu, Sushila, Ragani, and Chandrakala. According to doctors, Dhannu remained the most critical among them, while Chandrakala showed improvement with satisfactory urine output. The other three women underwent dialysis during the day.

Medical Response and Investigation

Additional principal of New Medical College Hospital Kota, Dr. R P Meena, stated that a high-level medical team from Jaipur is assisting local doctors in treating the affected women. The investigation into the cause of the infection is ongoing, but the exact reason has not yet been determined, Meena added.

Officials also noted that Dhannu's newborn baby is on oxygen support, while the other four newborns remain stable in the neonatal intensive care unit. The incident came to light after the condition of six women deteriorated within hours of undergoing C-section at the hospital on Monday evening. Two women, Payal (26, from Chittorgarh) and Jyoti Nayak (19, from Kota), died on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Allegations of Negligence

Family members of the deceased have alleged negligence in treatment. Jyoti's husband, Ravi, told TOI that despite informing hospital staff about her worsening condition early Tuesday morning, timely attention was not provided. Dr. B L Patidar and Dr. Neha reportedly performed the C-section, and the victim's family later lodged a complaint against the doctors for negligence.

However, Dr. Meena denied the allegations and stated that doctors acted immediately after the women's condition turned critical and shifted them to the nephrology ward.

Additional Developments

Meanwhile, another woman who reportedly underwent a C-section at the hospital on the same evening was shifted by her family to a private hospital after her condition deteriorated on Friday. Her family could not be contacted for comment.

The district administration has constituted inquiry committees into the incident, though officials have so far not shared details on the progress of the investigation or possible action in the case. The district collector did not comment on the incident, nor did the office issue any press release on the matter.
