Woman Dies During Childbirth at Kottayam MCH; Kin Allege Negligence

Kottayam: The relatives of a woman who died during childbirth at Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Monday have alleged medical negligence against the hospital authorities.

Incident Details

The deceased was identified as Feba, 27, wife of Omanappuzha in Alappuzha. On Tuesday, her relatives filed a complaint with the police and the hospital superintendent, claiming that negligence on the part of the hospital authorities led to her death.

Feba was admitted to MCH on Saturday after being referred from Alappuzha. Following labour pains, she was moved to the labour room on Monday morning. Initially, doctors indicated a normal delivery, but later a caesarean section was performed. After the surgery, doctors informed the relatives that the woman suffered a cardiac arrest.

Hospital's Response

However, MCH authorities stated that there was no lapse on the part of the doctors, and the patient was stable until delivery. They attributed the death to unexpected complications during delivery. An autopsy will provide accurate information on the cause of death, the authorities added.
